Drive Rounds enable you to take your 4x4 off road in a non-competitive environment and are an ideal introduction to off-road driving. Suitable for all vehicles of all types

Trials take place at sites all around the country and enable you to test your driving skills on a wide variety of terrains. These are the ideal events to pit your 4x4 against other vehicles

A Competitive Safari requires drivers to make a number of timed attempts at an arduous cross-country course leaving individually at regular intervals. Competitors are given an actual time for each attempt based on an average speed of between 30 and 40 mph. The course will normally be between 3 and 15 miles in length and the number of attempts required will result in an event distance of between 20 and 150 miles.


The route will be marked out with arrows, warning signs and barrier tape such that no navigation is required. Drivers must be Full members, hold a current drivers licence and an Motorsport UK competition licence. Passengers must be at least 16 years old and hold a current membership card. Drivers and passengers must sign on before the start of the event.

Marshals' vehicles are placed at regular intervals around the course. Those equipped with officially licenced (AWDC frequency) radio communication must display an approved radio pennant. Marshals are under the supervision of the Clerk of the Course and it is their job to react appropriately in the event of an accident and to keep the course clear of immobile vehicles whenever they create a hazard to competing vehicles.

Public roads are not used. The course is run on private land and consists of rough tracks, steep banks and tight turns on various surfaces. Vehicles leave individually at intervals of not less than 30 seconds. The route is clearly marked with arrows. Hazards are indicated by exclamation boards. The 'Start' and 'Finish' lines are marked with posts and banners. There is a Standing Start and a Flying Finish. The starting signal is by red, amber and green traffic lights. Timing is by electronic equipment automatically activated by the competing vehicles. At championship events there are four colour coded stacking lanes at the Start, one reserved for each of the seeded groups. Competitors may only use the lane reserved for their vehicle seeding after the run they wish to attempt has been called. They must not queue at the Start before being called as that will prevent similarly coded vehicles from catching up on their runs or taking re-runs.

The maximum number of entries per class is 60. The minimum for each class is 3. The maximum entry for the meeting is 65. The minimum is 20. Should any of the minimum figures above not be reached, the organisers have the right to cancel the meeting or amalgamate classes as required. The organisers may extend the maximum numbers at their discretion.
