AWDC UK•XTC Round 3

Postby Neil Whitford » Mon Jun 07, 2010 1:56 pm

Entries are now open for the next round of the eXtreme Time Challenge which will be held on August 15th at West Harptree, Avon.

Full details of the event format can be found here: http://www.allwheeldriveclub.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=151:ukxtc&catid=51:xtc&Itemid=90

Online entry is available here: http://www.allwheeldriveclub.org/index.php?view=details&id=73%3Aawdc-xtc-round-3&option=com_eventlist&Itemid=68

This will be the toughest XTC yet taking full advantage of the fantastic natural terrain at West Harptree. Course length is 2+ miles as the crow flies (but you can't drive it as the crow flies) and there is plenty of route choice.

As an MSA licensed event all attendees (competitors, officials and spectators) benefit from £30 million Public Liability insurance and drivers are exempted from prosecution for dangerous driving in the event of an accident.

There will be extensive, safe spectator viewing areas which will allow the whole course to be seen from up close.

Toilets, catering and overnight camping are available and there are no charges for spectators.

Prizes for driver and co-driver in the top 3 placed vehicles courtesy of our sponsors

Brilliant event, brilliant site. Would be there in a heartbeat but unluckily the Eurotrial is the same weekend.

Interesting!! Maybe just bloody hard work for those with open diffs and no winches :)

Mike

You'll be fine mate with open diffs and you don't need a winch. Used to time trial with the ALRC with open diffs no problem.

My biggest headache now is the mud flaps for my truck but am sure a few rivets and some neoprene will sort that out.
I would rather have a bad days trialing than a good day at work

Spent the last two days fitting things and stuff to the truck, resealed the front diff (pain in the arse job that). I've got the kill switches wired in, fitted some mud flaps. The biggest difference has been made by shortening the induction path by about 2 feet and got rid of some of the holes in the pipe work, better mixture and managed to knock off about 200 rpm at tick over, pick up seems to be better as well, cleaned all the muck (quite crusty) off the air filter and the truck is ready to go!!!!
Possible issues with co-drivers though, one may be working and unavailable, but luckily i have spare to hand :)
One more morning of work to do, got to bash a spring mount about a bit as it is rubbing on the forward shock, still should be ready by the weekend..........

Well done to all who took part! A good mix of Challenge, Safari and Time Trial vehicles which set some very fast times.

In the end there was just 7 minutes between the top six finishers.

Nick was extremely consistent with three consecutive runs of 07:09. Michael had electrical problems so got two maximums but when it was running his times were up there with the best of them.

Hopefully this will entice some more old skool safari motors out of their hibernation

I had a fantastic day

I will deffo be fitting twin shocks on the front and putting stiffer springs on for the next round as I was bouncing about all over the place. The worst was on the first and final run as although it looked fairly flat, for a short wheel base, it was evil. Although perfect for trialing my suspension is far too soft for that malarky.

Photos and video!!!!

Brilliant day, biggest hazard aside from the yellow and green QT between gates 8 and 9 was the constant flash of cameras :) , been hunting for phots all day (the joys of shift work :P ) to no avail

Please, everyone, if you were spectating yesterday get the photos out and the videos up.

I may be a little too excited about seeing myself, but it was an amazing day, and we will be at the next one....... (if i can get the car running again)
