Torqueflite 727 3 Speed Auto HELP

Postby spwesty7 » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:31 am

Help please!!!!!

Ive got a Torqueflite 727, 3 spped auto, the one they put in the early rangies, in my comp racer but over the weekend it didnt want to play anymore! It has an Art Carr manual changer on it, unloaded it off the trailer, all worked, drove it up the road, worked fine, went to turn round, now not fine!!!! The car still drives forward and it drives fine in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, changing up and down sweet as a nut but now when you put it in neutral, it is driving in 1st, put it in reverse or park and it feels like the park brake is on but still trying to drive forward.

Ive dropped the oil, flushed it through, no change, dropped the oil again, dropped the sump off the bottom and taken the valve block out, stripped it down, cleaned, oiled and put it all back together and again no change!

I have spoke to Ashcroft but to no avail, they dont do them anymore as they are 'too old'!!!!!! And they had no clever ideas.

Has anyone come across this sort of problem before? Any things i should try? Anything??????

Just as an aside, im in Kent before any ideas of going to Inverness!

Thanks for any help anyone can shed on this for me!

May Be A niave question but have you checked that all the selectors are working correctly and that the selector is actually moving the selector inside the gearbox >

I used to get a similar problem with my BW65, the fault was shift cable adjustment. Try disconnecting the shift cable at the gearbox and selecting the gears manually with the lever on the side of the box, if all works fine its cable adjustment.

Thank you, I have taken out the selector and the linkage, it is all moving everything inside all ok, i have checked it by eye, with lots of atf in my hair, but also by the start inhibitor switch, it will only start in Park and neutral, as it should, and done this without the linkage and with it connected so all appears to be working that end but may have another look though! Unless ive got completely the wrong end of the stick!

By the way, i had never seen the inside of an auto box untill saturday afternoon so i really do not know what im looking at!!!
